the morning started out with a bang as we gave him his birthday present-- a grab bag from the dollar store that was sealed when we bought it so we didn't even know what it was when we gave it to him. it ended up being a toy car, a deck of cards, a water bomb, funny glasses, and-- my personal favorite-- a clown nose. at that point, i knew that the day was destined to be amazing... i was not dissapointed.
(an extremely epic rendering of part of our posse--me, brett, lee, davis, & seth)
most of the hike was along the crests of mountains as we looped around a couple mountains and up to mount santaquin. one of the best parts were the wildflowers that were everywhere. i'm pretty sure that every one of us busted out into "the hills are alive..." at least once.so the summit of mount santaquin kind of weird. this is why: the whole thing is covered in these unnatural, white rocks. it is also swarming with outlandish bugs and there is a flagpole-with no flag--naturally, a deer skull, and a mailbox. honestly though, i was so glad to get up there that i didn't really care what it looked like.
(the fellowship: seriously though, michael is a hobbit- he wore flip flops the whole way up!
(everyone! me, seth, michael, scott, brett, emily, davis, jenn, brock, and lee-- i don't know how us girls pulled it off, but there was a seriously good ratio going on here.)
the way down was LONG! it felt like it lasted for forever-- mostly because we were all sunburned and hot and grumpy at this point. i don't think that anyone spoke for the last half hour--we just walked in silence with glazed looks in our eyes. the best thing in the world was when these random people gave us the yummiest watermelon ever when we got to the parking lot. the grand total for the hike was 12 miles and 5 1/2 hours. wooohooo! after we got back to looking like actual human beings, we all went to fuddruckers and ate way too much.
